ISLAMIC, Mongols. Ilkhanids. Abu Sa'id, AH 716-736 / AD 1316-1335. 2 Dirhams (Silver, 23 mm, 3.50 g, 9 h), type F, Sultaniya, AH 725 = 1324/5. Within a square, ‘lā ilāha illā / Allāh Muḥammad / rasūl Allāh’ (‘There is no deity but Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah’ in Arabic); the names of the four Rashidun Caliphs to right and left; above and below, ‘qul allāhumma – mālik al-mulk’ (‘Say: O Allah! Owner of the Kingdom!’ in Arabic; Qurʾān 3: 26). Rev. Within a central circle, ‘ḍarb / al-sulṭān Abū Saʿīd / Bahādur Khān khalada mulkuhū / Sulṭāniya’ (‘Sultan Abu Saʿid Bahadur Khan. May his kingdom be perpetuated. Struck in Sultaniya’ in Arabic); in the margin, ‘fī sana khams wa ʿishrīn wa sabʿa miʾa’ (‘In the year 725’ in Arabic). Album 2210A (AH 727). Diler Ab-510. Rare.
